Consultant General Laparoscopic and Colorectal Surgeon
Mr Amin qualified as Bachelor of Medicine (MB) and Bachelor of Surgery (chB) in 1986. He became a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England in 1992. He completed his post-graduate training in the University Hospital Nottingham. During this period he carried out full time research in immune therapy for colorectal cancer in the Academic Department of Surgery in Nottingham. Mr Amin completed the Intercollegiate Fellowship and obtained his Certificate of Completion of Training in General and Colorectal Surgery in 1999.
Mr Amin was appointed Consultant Surgeon at Sheffield Teaching Hospitals 1999. He is currently the Clinical Lead of the Department of Colorectal Surgery. He is also the Colorectal Cancer Multidisciplinary and laparoscopic Lead for Colorectal Surgery. His major interest has been in abdominal surgery with particular reference to colorectal disease.

Mr Amin treats all aspects of colorectal surgery including colorectal cancer, inflammatory bowel disease, haemorrhoids, fistula and fissure surgery. He also has a specialist interest in the management of colorectal cancer and advanced laparoscopic colorectal surgery.
He has a primary interest in the management of colorectal cancer. He has established Sheffield as a Centre for Laparoscopic Colorectal Cancer Surgery and provides the regional service for early rectal cancer surgery using trans-anal endoscopic microsurgery. This technique allows the removal of early rectal cancer and spares the patient the need for a stoma (colostomy).
He also has an interest in hernia surgery and offers laparoscopic (keyhole) hernia surgery for all different types of hernia. He is the Lead Clinician for Colon and Rectal Cancer Services at the Sheffield NHS Teaching Hospitals. He uses new techniques in the management of anal fistula disease and parastomal hernia repair.
Mr Amin has over 20 publications in colorectal surgery. He has prepared multiple abstracts and written a book chapter on colorectal trauma. He has been an invited speaker in national and international meetings.
